The Department of Human Resources is responsible for the SNAP plan within Maryland. The program is used to help low income families and people who need to afford a healthy diet for themselves and their family. The food supplement program provides people with benefits on a monthly basis through the use of the EBT card. The card allows individuals to be able to purchase food items through various stores which are accepting SNAP benefits. To find out more about the options that are available the more information about the program, you can visit the Department of Human Resources site for the food supplemental program.

People have the opportunity to apply for benefits at any of the Department of Social Services locations in their area. There is a directory or local offices that are linked on this page so that you can find one nearby to your area. You must pick up a form from the location and fill it out to apply. At that point, you can either mail it to the location or bring it back in person. You also have the chance to apply for benefits via the site. This can be done with the use of the Maryland SAIL website. You can find out information about requirements and how to begin an application on this site by accessing the panel of options that is provided on the left hand corner. Clicking on “Start and Application” will provide you with the initial information and the process. You need to be able to provide some general information about yourself, such as your social security number, assets, income, residency, and any other related information. When you have begun an application, you have 30 days to complete it on the website. If you do not have all of the information necessary to complete the application, you can save it with an account and then log in at a later time to finish it.

When your application has been processed, you will have to participate in an interview with someone from the human resource office, either by the phone or at the office itself. When you have finished the interview, you might receive an approval letter with your EBT card in the mail. The amount of benefits that you are given will depending on the number of people in your household that are also requesting benefits. However, some people get benefits even though there are no other household members currently seeking benefits as well. The “Am I Eligible” site will provide you with a screening process to help you determine if you would be eligible prior to your application. Most people who live in Maryland and make less than $2000 a month are able to receive benefits. Your EBT card will have your benefit funds on a monthly basis for use at approved SNAP vendors.
