Normally a SNAP application can take anywhere from one week to one month for completion. This depends greatly on several factors. One factor deals with how the application was received. If the application was completed online, then chances are the process will go faster. However, if you choose to mail in the application the process would take longer. For those families seeking immediate or expedited food assistance, there are several plans available to help. One of the plans is called expedited benefits. In order to obtain expedited benefits, you will need to know the process required.

Contact the Local SNAP Office

The first thing you will want to do is contact your local SNAP office. You need to let them know that you will be seeking expedited food stamps. The office will likely make an appointment for you to come in and speak with a food stamp case worker. This appointment will be done either face to face or over the phone depending on your local office requirements.

Paperwork

You will need to make sure you have any and all paperwork required by your state for SNAP. This will allow the case to flow quickly through the process and for the expedited food assistance to be granted. This paperwork may or may not include letters of income, unemployment paperwork, lease or rental agreements and proof of income for anyone in the home. You will also need to have any social security numbers for anyone who will be considered on the food stamp application. It is vital that you have this information in order to help the case worker. If any of this information is missing you may not be able to receive expedited food assistance.

Expedited Assistance Options

There will be several options available to you through the expedited SNAP benefits program. One of the options is to receive assistance is to be approved for the expedited food assistance. This means that, upon approval, you will be able to receive your card and food stamp benefits within a few days to a week. This may not help families in certain dire situations. If your situation requires that you need immediate assistance, you will be given a list of food banks and manna food bank kitchens that will help you obtain food within 24 to 72 hours.

These steps are necessary in order to receive food assistance approval as quickly as possible. If you have all of your paperwork, required forms and identification items the process will move smoothly. Your case worker will be able to answer any questions and help you with the overall process. The goal for you and for them is to obtain food assistance that fits your family needs and to expedite those needs when necessary. For any questions, to schedule an appointment or to find out eligibility requirements for SNAP contact your local SNAP office or visit the SNAP website online for further information and contact points. Remember, food assistance may also be offered through your local church organizations in order to help bridge the gap until SNAP is approved.
