Food Stamps

Seattle Food Stamp Program

The Washington Basic Food Program operates under the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. This program provides food assistance to individuals and families with low income salaries. The program has helped thousands of people within the state and ensures that they have healthy food to eat on a regular basis. The goal is that the program is able to assist people with paying for the majority of their grocery bills; however, most of the people living in the Seattle area only use it to ensure that they can supplement their grocery expenses. In order to be eligible for the program, individuals must meet the requirements that have been set by the state and the federal government. To learn more about this program, you can visit the Washington Basic Food Program website located at the end of this page. Please note that the helpful links section of this page will also allow you to download an application or apply online.

In order to apply for the program, individuals have to fill out an application and submit it to the local DSHS office in their area. The application is available online in a variety of different languages. However, if you do not want to apply online, you can download a form in English and submit it to a local office instead. You will need to provide some general information on this application. This includes contact information, social security number, income information, household information, and various information about your resources. You may have to provide information about your family or those who are living in your household as well. When you have submitted your application, you will be given an interview. You can either attend this interview in person or you can participate in an interview over the phone. This interview is used to ensure that you meet the requirements of the program. You may be asked additional questions or you may be asked to verify the information that you provided on your application. Generally, you will have to submit some documents for proof of income and proof of identity.

It’s highly recommended that those who are considering applying should use the online screening tool in order to ensure they are eligible. The tool is available on the Washington connection website. People who make more than $2000 per month and have less than four people in their family or household will not be considered to be eligible. Additionally, you are not allowed to have assets over the amount of $4000. However, if you are qualifying for other programs, such as SSI, TANF, or Working Connections Childcare, there’s a large chance that you will be likely to receive benefits.
