So the rules for food stamps completely ignore pets. You can’t buy dog treats, canned dog food, dry dog food or any other type of pet product with food stamps. That doesn’t mean you can’t make your pet some food using your food stamp money. After all, the pet is a part of the family right? There’s actually some simple recipes and ideas for dog food that are easy to make and cheap, and you can also use these recipes for other carnivorous animals, such as the house cat. Just follow these steps for a simple and delicious meal for your pet.

What You Need

3 cups wheat flour

3 cups rolled oats

2 tsp. bone meal

2 cups dry milk

3 cups of cooked brown rice or wild rice

4 raw eggs

1 cup bacon grease or lard, melted

3 cups of water, broth, gravy, milk, or meat drippings

1 cup of chopped carrots

1 cup cooked chopped peas

2 to 4 cups ground, shredded fish, chicken or beef (optional)

Plastic bag or container

First, you’ll combine the whole wheat flour, bone meal, rolled oats and dry milk into a large bowl. Then, cut the brown rice a little at a time, blending in with the mixture in the bowl. Now, whisk the eggs in a separate bowl, then pour the melted bacon grease or lead, blending with a whisk. Add in water, broth, milk, gravy, meat drippings and mix together. Then, slowly stir the ingredients into the mixture in the other bowl, a little at a time, until blended. Add in your choice of shredded meat, cooked carrots and peas. Heat up the oven to 175 degrees Fahrenheit and grease several large baking pans. Spread the dog food along the pans and bake about 45 minutes. When the food browns, pull out the pans and wait for it to cool. It’s now ready to serve or be packaged up for another meal.
